Leaves: Leaves compound (bipinnate), with many pairs of leaflets per pinna. Alternate. Petiolate, with nectary glands on lower surface of leaf rachises or between all pinnae. Stipules deciduous, lanceolate.

Flowers: Flowers in pedunculate, axillary, corymbose heads, dimorphic within each head, a central larger flower 7–8-merous, probably sterile, surrounded by smaller perfect flowers. Flowers bisexual (perfect), mimosaceous. Calyx (4)5-lobed. Corolla funnelform, 5-lobed. Stamens ca. 15–30; filaments connate up to ½ their length, exserted. Ovary superior.

Fruit: Pods flat; irregularly dehiscent; mesocarp moderately to well–developed; succulent when young; endocarp forming septate envelopes around each seed. Seeds several; with a distinct; horseshoe–shaped areole with a pleurogram.
